How to reconcile your Telemedicine charges in Kareo Encounters

Kareo Telemedicine payments are processed differently, and separately, from other Kareo payments. They are collected from the Kareo Telemedicine platform, and deposited directly into your bank account.

Skipping Payment Step

At the end of an appointment, and the patient's insurance was indeterminable, you will be presented with two options: Charge Now and Skip this Step

Pressing Skip this Step will not charge the patient, but will create an Encounter in Kareo PM. This encounter will note that no charge was collected at the end of the appointment, and will need to be collected outside of the Kareo Telemedicine system.


When you press Charge Now the patient will be charged, and within 24-48 hours, the payment (minus processing fees) will appear in your bank account.

After pressing Charge Now, a Draft Encounter will be created in Kareo PM with the amount you charged, and you will see that the Procedure and Diagnosis are placeholders. After updating these, and adding any notes, you can then Approve the encounter, which will remove it from drafts.

When you press Skip this Step, a draft encounter will be created similarly to the above, with a note declaring The provider elected not to bill the patient
